As other contributors have said , the intensity of the feedback in the 981 has been toned down, making it more refined.Few thoughts, hope this helps: - The 718 feels much faster and pulls harder. The low end torque lets you hammer down at any point and you get long pulls from 3-7k rpms. 718 S is on another level. With the 981, you have to keep it above 4k rpms to keep the momentum going. - If you plan on tracking, the 718 is better.Paul Smith.
