With 21 days in total I would allow at least 4 days/3nights for the rainforest, 5 to 6 days being ideal for a 3-week visit. With 3 days you only get one full day at your lodge as days 1 and 3 are basically taken up getting to & from your lodge.I think most of the places they visited were made up - there are plenty of real well hidden Inca temples dotted around Peru - in particular Cusco - so the fact that the pretend ones don't exist isn't such a big deal. 2. A quick search tells me that for the same random date in April: A one-way ticket from Lima to Cuzco on Cruz del Sur costs $70 and takes 21 hours. Like you said, you have to travel to the area in order to visit the local attractions. Everything is far from Lima.
