Agreed, the shamans, but be in PBWT when you are farming. There are 3 crystal lizards. One in each part of the world. The one in 5-1 should have shards. 5-2 and 5-3 will have chunks (and pure if you're lucky) Spawn at 5-3 and go back toward 5-2 and kill the shaman and rinse and repeat.
Am playing on PS5. As the title says, no matter what I do, whenever I go to the Filthy Man at the start of Stonefang Tunnel at the Smithing he will never have any Large Hardstone Shards to sell me. He only ever has Hardstone Shards or Sharpstone Shards plus some other stuff (Crescent Moon Grass, Ed's Sharpening Stone etc.).
