1999 Prairie 400 wont get over 20mph. Full disclosure I usually work on Honda ATV's. But, a buddy of mine bought a 1999 Prairie 400 for "a good deal" on local craigslist. It seemed to idle great and even rev up in neutral just fine, but does not accelerate past about 20 or so mph (cant tell cause speedo is broke).You likely have an issue inside the gearbox if the bike does not move. The primary clutch and the crank shaft is mounts on - make sure there is NO LUBRICANT AT ALL. If there is lubricant, then that could be the issue. If the primary were to go on to far, the cooling fins on the back of the clutch could hit the metal plate behind it. An 1/8th inch out is pretty far. Unhook the linkage; if it still pops out of gear, then it's an internal problem.
