When you build a "window" you are only building a wall with a space for a window. You can take windows from houses using a crowbar and put them in that space, you can then board them up. However, make sure you put the barricades on the outside of the windows so zombies don't break the glass before the barricades. #10.

I think you are right. If you put the barricades outside it is also my observation that they tried to break in. Another advantage of having them inside is that you can hear the loud event first, which is the window breaking.
