Minimum spec is 80W-90, which I think is usually semi-synthetic. Or you could use 75W-90 full synthetic. Just make sure it says GL-5 differential oil on the bottle, since a lot of these viscosities overlap with transmission oils that are GL-4 spec on the package. So in short: GL-5 = differential oil, GL-4 = (manual) transmission oil.

I just changed my gear oil in the front and the fluid capacities I've seen posted says 4 pints (2 quarts), but that much won't fit in. At about a 1.3 qts it starts flowing out the fill hole.If you still want to fill over the filler plug hole, position the Jeep on an incline with the front pointing down hill. Dont worry about the hubs, they will get filled up.
