Called Gibson - they said they use both 8 and 9 digit serial #'s now - for 9 digit the first 5 digits are the same as an 8 digit serial number - the last 4 digits are the production code (and not the build number) He tried to look mine up to see what build number it was but could not tell from their data base. Not an expert on Les Paul authenticity, but for all intents and purposes, if it doesn't have a serial number and you're never able to confirm one for a potential buyer, then it's value is totally subjective to you.
