My biggest weakness is in speaking but I pretty much understand 90% of spanish. I did have some spanish when I was in school, so I wasn't a total beginner, but it had been almost 10 years when I started duolingo. Duolingo works best with other resources, like fairy tales in Spanish, early beginner videos on youtube, language transfer etc.
