John deere 318 no spark.
May 24, 2019 · Serial number of the tractor is C314L 19146LM. Took the points off and cleaned them. They were a little pitted so I filed them down to take the pitting out. Regapped them a little under .020". Was able to get a little spark when touching a screwdriver across the points. Tried a new spark plug but still no spark.

Plowing snow for a couple hours in Jan. Running great and working hard, then it just died sounding like it ran out of gas. Gave it a spray of starter fluid (the kind with lube in it). Would start to start up, but not quite & then die. PULL spark plug wires, ground circuit tester to battery neg., place other end of tester on the NEG. side of coil., Crank engine, tester should Flash. Now remove tester, install plug wires & mow until problem comes back. Complete the same test again, If light still flashes, your controller/module is good.

I'm pretty sure the red wire is always hot, so you do not need to have the key on. To jump it, you need to get 12V to wherever the start signal wire attaches to the solenoid. It's purple on my tractor, but I am not sure about the 318.
