The serial number would put it at 1975. Nickel finish was fairly common on model 19s, but if it looked good shape when you bought and is now flaking I`d consider it suspect. But there are some kinds of cleaning solvents that are hard on nickel finish.

Dec 16, 2020 · Very nice 357. S&W did not use model numbers until 1958. In 1958 the 357 magnum was assigned the model number 27. Many would call your revolver a pre model 27. Take care of it. Those 3.5' model 27's are worth pretty big money. Most nice onessell for over $1200, and yours is nice.

However they both have a different number on the yoke and the crane. The first revolver is a K-22 masterpiece made in 1940. The serial # is 684xxx. The number on the yoke and crane is 19489. Welcome to the forum! Concur it's an M&P 1905 4th Change. The S&W Standard Catalog puts the serials 241704-700000 between 1915 and 1942. Not a lot of help. They weren't made at an even x-number per year, so extrapolating your serial in that range isn't going to be exact. If the production was relatively linear then I'd guess 1928- ish.

The model 29 began using a 3 letter prefix in 1983 during production of the 29-3. It can't be a no dash model 29 and have a 3 letter prefix serial number.
