The existing chime you have, i dont think had a transformer, based off the beefy black wires there. Use a volt meter to check ac or dc current. That model chime is from the early 60's, using a motorized chime. Honestly i would recommend replacing the chime and installing a new mechanical one that you KNOW will work with your new doorbell.
