Just checked my old No Spoon save. I made the resource patches as large/frequent/rich as possible, and made the biters as easy as possible (they still have to be on though). Then I just used the standard SPM ratios (5 red/6 green/etc for 45 spm at level 2 assemblers), and only researched technologies that directly helped launch the rocket.Find a good map.
